Biography
Ron Livingston was born on June 5, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The son of an aerospace engineer and a Lutheran minister, he grew up in the Cedar Rapids suburb of Marion. Ron is the oldest of four siblings; his younger brothers John and Nick are also an actors in Los Angeles, sister Jennifer Livingston is a television news anchor in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
After graduating from Marion High School where he participated in theater and was on the wrestling team, Ron attended Yale University, majoring in Theatre Studies and English Literature. While still an undergraduate, he began his formal acting career, garnering stage roles with the Williamstown Theatre Festival and Manhattan Class Company.
After graduating from Yale in 1989, he moved to Chicago, residing in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. He compiled stage credits including shows at the well-known Goodman Theatre. It was during this time he made his film debut as a soldier in the Dolly Parton film “Straight Talk. Ironically, all of his lines were cut, but he can be seen in the opening of the movie.
Hoping to develop his film career, Ron moved to Los Angeles in 1993. After several guest appearances on television shows such as “Jag” and “Timecop” Ron caught the attention of audiences by appearing as “Rob” in the cult hit Swingers with Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn in 1996.
Although he may be best known as the disaffected corporate computer programmer Peter Gibbons in the 1999 film “Office Space” Ron has enjoyed other significant roles on television including the lead role of Matt Flannery on the Fox television show “Standoff”, his Golden-Globe nominated performance as Lewis Nixon in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, Carrie Bradshaw’s boyfriend Jack Berger in Seasons 5 and 6 of “Sex and the City” and guest appearances on “House” and “The Practice.” Some of his films include the Fall 2007 released "Music Within" and "Holly", Adaptation, The Cooler, Pretty Persuasion, Holly, Little Black Book, Two Ninas, Winter Solstice, and Relative Strangers.
His wife is acclaimed Broadway and film actress Rosemarie Dewitt.
Ron and Rosemarie currently resides in Los Angeles.
Recent work includes the August 2009 film "The Time Traveler's Wife" and the ABC drama "Defying Gravity."
Currently, Ron can be seen on the big screen in "Dinner for Schmucks" and "Going the Distance."
He has recently finished filming the indie film :Queen of Country.
